with what weave we care

stunned alive

& stitched

by air

with what love we dare

a heap of hearts be-

yond a chain-link

prayer

with what hope we hold

shelved as we are

& creased at

the spine

highlighter in hand, god

scours our pages

for a phrase

divine

& delivers a bright

yellow stripe across

a precious

line

loving one person is really

an opportunity to

learn to love

all people*
